Architecture
The buildings that surround us—especially the great public and commercial
spaces in which we interact and work and recreate—are rarely given sufficient
attention as an element in the life of the community. These structures
are more than buildings, more than the creative organization of spaces
and forms; they are the physical symbols of what we care about and value
as a community. The Cleveland Arts Prize in Architecture has, therefore,
been given, from time to time, to those visionary individuals who take
our aspirations and give them form—in stone and glass and wood and steel—urging
us both to meet our future and to save the best parts of our past.
