Music
Cleveland is blessed with a world-class orchestra, two nationally regarded
schools of music, and an annual jazz festival that brings legendary figures
to town to entertain and move us. But one of our best-kept secrets is
how many outstanding composers have made their creative home here. The
composers who have been recognized by the Cleveland Arts Prize in Music
have won critical acclaim from Severance Hall to the splendid new Library
of Alexandria in Egypt. The works they have created, ranging from the
traditional to the avant-garde, from chamber music to opera, from jazz-influenced
lyricism to the bold sonorities of electronic music, reflect the region’s
diverse ethnic heritage and the ever-evolving musical landscape.
