GroundWorks Dancetheater to premiere New WOrk with Inaugural series at the allen theatre October 26 & 27 Performance Presented by CSU Department of Theatre and Dance
CLEVELAND (September 20, 2012) – GroundWorks DanceTheater will kick off its inaugural series at the Allen Theatre in PlayhouseSquare with the world premiere of a new work by guest choreographer Doug Elkins at 7:30 p.m. on October 26 and 27, 2012.  The program will also include works by Artistic Director David Shimotakahara (CAP 2000) and Artistic Associate Amy Miller.
 
The performances are presented by the Cleveland State University Department of Theatre and Dance, which begins a new partnership with GroundWorks as a Professional Dance Company In Residence.

Robert Maschke Architects Awarded AIA Ohio Gold Medal
The Board of Directors of AIA Ohio, a Society of the American Institute of Architects voted unanimously at the July 2012 Board Meeting to bestow the 2012 AIA Gold Medal Firm Award to Robert Maschke (CAP 2011) Architects Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio. Established November 14, 1997, RMA becomes the youngest firm ever to receive this award. The AIA will present the award to Robert Maschke Architects Inc. at the 2012 AIA Ohio Design Awards Banquet during the AIA Ohio Convention on Friday, September 14, at the Ohio Theater in Cleveland, Ohio. The AIA Ohio Gold Medal Firm Award is the highest honor that AIA Ohio can bestow on an architectural firm. The AIA Ohio Board of Directors may confer this award to a firm who has consistently, over an extended period of time, distinguished itself through excellence in the practice of Architecture. AIA Ohio President, Jud Kline, FAIA, notified Robert Maschke, AIA by telephone immediately after the Board of Director's decision. "It is very humbling and overwhelming all at the same time," said Maschke, "never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that I would build a firm that would achieve this recognition."

WKSU Commentator to be a guest on "a prairie home companion"
Poet/author/educator George Bilgere (CAP 2003) will be a guest on Garrison Keillor’s “A Prairie Home Companion” this Saturday (12/10). Keillor often invites poets to read their work and participate in comedy sketches on the Saturday evening public radio program. Bilgere’s poetry has been featured multiple times on the Keillor-hosted “The Writer’s Almanac.”
 
Bilgere has been a guest contributor on WKSU since 2005 as a commentator and poet. His pieces have touched on the seasons, family history and contemporary life in the industrial Midwest.
 
WKSU airs “A Prairie Home Companion” Saturdays from 6 to 8 p.m. with a rebroadcast on Sundays at 10 a.m. Over the past 36 years, “A Prairie Home Companion” has won the hearts of the public radio audience and has a large and loyal following across the country. The program, which will be coming live this week from The Town Hall in New York City, is currently heard on 580 public radio stations by more than four million listeners.
 
WKSU broadcasts NPR & Classical Music at 89.7 FM, and is a service of Kent State University. WKSU programming is also heard on WKRW 89.3 FM in Wooster, WKRJ 91.5 FM in Dover/New Philadelphia, WKSV 89.1 FM in Thompson, WNRK 90.7 in Norwalk and W239AZ 95.7 FM in Ashland. Craig Lucas (CAP 2008), artist, dies at 69
Craig N. Lucas, 69, of Kent, OH, died Friday, April 1, 2011 at his residence. Craig was a professor emeritus at Kent State and a talented painter. A memorial service was held April 11, 2011 at Kent State University.  Read article here.

Toshiko Takaezu (CAP 1962), Ceramic artist, dies at 88
Toshiko Takaezu, a Japanese-American ceramist whose closed pots and torpedolike cylinders, derived from natural forms, helped to elevate ceramics from the production of functional vessels to a fine art, died on March 9 in Honolulu. She was 88. Read the full article from the New York Times.
