At
a 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. reception Wednesday at the Museum of Contemporary
Art Cleveland, the Cleveland Arts Prize will unveil its new look
and announce changes in its policies and procedures.
For
45 years the CAP identified and honored Northeast Ohio artists until
last year, when the Arts Prize Board took the prizes off the table
for a year while it underwent a review.
The
board spent a year renovating the prize, crafting changes that include
broadening of eligibility within artistic disciplines, the jury
process, recognition of emerging artists, increased public input and
larger monetary awards.
These
are the changes that will be revealed Wednesday.
The
public is invited to attend the event, which will also include awarding
the Martha Joseph Special Citation for Distinguished Service to
the Arts to an organization or individual who has made a significant
contribution to the arts, and the Robert P. Bergman Prize, which
will go to an individual who has expanded his or her field more
broadly.
Among
the changes is a new Arts Prize logo, created by Timothy LaChina of Walter Greene Co. in Cleveland Heights.
An
exhibit and music will provide a good backdrop for the event. The
exhibit, Drawn to Cleveland, curated by two former Arts Prize winners,
Kenneth Dingwall (1997) and John Moore (1995), features the works
of artists who have lived or studied in Cleveland. Music will be
by composer/saxophonist Howie Smith (1985 Arts Prize Winner).
