Local composer introducing new works
Loris Chobanian, Baldwin-Wallace College composer in residence and
professor of composition and guitar, has written three works for performances
during the 2006-07 academic year. His Piano Trio No. 2 (Texturas)
received its premiere last month by the Elysian Trio at B-W's Gamble
Auditorium and a second performance at St. Paul's Episcopal Church
in Shaker Heights by Cleveland Orchestra members as part of the Cleveland
Chamber Collective.
The
second Chobanian premiere of the season, Rhapsody for Alto Saxophone
and Strings, written for saxophonist Greg Banaszak, will be presented
in January at B-W on a program of the composer's chamber and solo
compositions. The work will be performed later in Poland
. Chobanian's Armenian Rhapsody for Guitar and Symphonic
Wind Ensemble will receive its premiere in March in St.
Paul , Minn. , by the University of St. Thomas Symphonic
Wind Ensemble and conductor Matthew George, with Christopher Kachian
as guitar soloist. These musicians also will present the work on
tour in China.
