NEWS & EVENTS:

GroundWorks Dance Event

GroundWorks Dancetheater’s  5th consecutive Summer Performance Series lights up Cain Park’s Alma Theater June 22, 23 and 24th, 2007.

The program will showcase a collection of shorter pieces, featuring New Work by GroundWorks artistic associate Amy Miller and a New Work by Seattle based guest choreographer KT Niehoff in which two people try to negotiate a physical dilemma that leads to endless possibilities.  GroundWorks will reprise Amy Miller’s most recent duet U Me U.  Plain Dealer critic Donald Rosenberg writes,Miller’s choreography is a keen blend of novelty and fluidity. The couple flirts with ballroom styles but quickly departs from convention. They gently push and pull one another, engage in unexpected lifts and find teasing and rapturous responses to the game of life.”  The program will finish with the popular Kabila by artistic director David Shimotakahara - bold and exuberant dancing to the lively music of contemporary African vocalists, Samite, Ayub Ogada, and others.
