Special
Citation
for Distinguished Service to the Arts
The Cleveland Arts Prize has also deemed it important to celebrate those
individuals who have, through exceptional mastery or commitment, vision
or leadership, made a significant contribution to the vitality and stature
of the arts in Cleveland. The recipients of the Cleveland Arts Prize Special
Citation for Distinguished Service to the Arts have given us a world-class
orchestra and art museum, a lively theater scene, a school of the arts
that has won national attention, and regular access to the great films
and other art of our time, from around the nation and the world. They
have mentored new generations of performers, lobbied politicians to increase
government support of the arts, led the cultural institutions that nourish
a diverse community, and challenged us to embrace the best in ourselves.
